Sing gently when you sing my song
Poem by John Patton as recited by John at his July 30-31 2011 homily
Sing gently when you sing my song
But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet, Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
W. B. Yeats.
For my song it is woven from dreams
Spun through strands of reality
And nothing is all that it seems
Smile gently when you smile at my fears
For my fears may belong to you
For nothing in this world but can change
And nothing can ever be new
Laugh gently when you laugh at my hopes
For by our hope we live
And when we lose the strength to dream
We have nothing left to give
Sing gently when you sing my song
For my song it is woven from dreams
Spun through strands of reality
And nothing is all that it seems
