Time – Liturgy June 9, 2024
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: A time to be born; and a time to die.” What time does SMX face in the near-future? Will it thrive, or die? What are the options? This homily will explore some different scenarios, and offer some proactive thoughts on how we can collectively respond to inevitable changes.

Youth Crime in QLD – Where to next? – Liturgy May 26, 2024
The homily this week will be given by Rev Dr Wayne Sanderson. His ministry, across 40 years, has included heavy involvement with community mental health programs- largely with cross-cultural and marginalised groups. He has worked in retirement (pro bono) with several other professional practitioners and researchers. Most of these people have seen what he has seen - up and down Queensland, what happens to kids in serious trouble with the law. One such practitioner is Dr Matt Hawkins, Director with Edmund Rice Flexi-Schools. See the first of a new series of discussion starters here.

Anniversary of Nakba – Liturgy May 19, 2024
This weekend we reflect on the sad anniversary of Nakba, so called by Palestinian people, meaning Catastrophe. To understand the situation in Palestine today we need to understand Nakba. This is when there were mass killings, displacement and dispossession of Palestinians by Israelis in 1948. At the liturgy we will watch an episode of Compass where we hear from Antony Löwenstein-Jensen a leading voice among Australian Jews speaking out against Israel’s occupation and attacks on Gaza. For many in the Jewish community he is a traitor.

Easter Sunday 2024
The Easter story invites us to wake up to our inter-being, our connectedness to all life. To wake up to the divine presence and essence permeating all of life. It is this beloved presence that invites us to live in harmony and acceptance, and in the words of Mary Oliver to stop our worrying and go out into the morning and sing.
