We have decided to re-play a popular on-line liturgy from June 14th last year where Peter Kennedy gave the homily. Peter reflects on the notion that although we need an ego to survive in life, it is our ego that causes us pain and suffering.

This week Liz Little talks about a podcast which is part of a series called 'On The Way' and is made by St John's Anglican Church in Brisbane. In this podcast, expert Brian McLaren discussed his book Faith after Doubt. McLaren challenges the idea of faith as a thing of certainty and he sees doubt as absolutely essential for faith.

Last year Micah projects celebrated 25 years of assisting homeless people in Brisbane. On the eve of Homeless Awareness Week Terry will be interviewing Karyn Walsh the CEO of Micah Projects. Karyn was recently recognised for all her great work with Micah by being recognised as a Queensland Great.

This week Terry Fitzpatrick's Homily is about a ground-breaking court case in Australia which, if successful, may trigger drastic changes in the way our nation addresses this crisis.

In our liturgy we will be listening to the homily that Fr Frank Brennan SJ gave at the start of NAIDOC week. Reflecting on the focus for the week of ‘Heal Country’ he states that “There’ll be no healing of the country, there’ll be no constitutional recognition, and there’ll be no truth telling unless more of us hear the same call that Jesus heard and that is, “The spirit came into me and made me stand up.”

This week we celebrate NAIDOC week. It is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet.

Annette Brownlie from The Independent and Peaceful Australia Network (IPAN) will be speaking about an increased Australian anxiety and how peace in our region is under threat.

Karyn Walsh will be giving commentary on a video celebrating the 25 year history of Micah Projects. For over 25 years we at SMX have had a very proud relationship with Micah Projects. This weekend we celebrate something of this pride and remember some of the great work that has been done.
